A glamourous Indonesian couple came all the way to France to experience the charm of Parisian festivities with 100 of their closest friends and family. The exquisite Bride came packing 6 different gowns for the 3 days of events that started with a welcome lunch on a festive yacht, followed by a classic garden wedding ceremony and an elegant movie-like reception, all topped off with a rockin dance party. “With the vote, France joins Britain in taking a major legislative step in recent weeks toward allowing gay marriage and adoption — making them the largest European countries to do so. The Netherlands, Belgium, Norway and Spain as well as Argentina, Canada and South Africa have authorized gay marriage along with six states in the United States.”

Since 1999, same-sex couples in France have had the option to get PACSed, which is a French civil union, however this union can be made between any two adults who wish to organize their lives together. It brings rights, responsibilities and tax benefits, but less so than a marriage, and is only legally recognized in France. In February, the French government voted on the same-sex marriage bill and it passed by 69%, the first step towards legalizing gay marriage and adoption in France. The bill was then approved in late April, therefore legalizing gay marriage and making them the 14th country in Europe to do so! The president just has to now sign it into law and same sex marriages could be legal as soon as next month.
Last Saturday, only 4 days after the final vote, Paris hosted their very first gay marriage trade show. Inside, gay couples browsed through a variety of vendors that showed what they had to offer to this new wedding market. Guests were first welcomed with a glass of champagne, then given the chance to taste caterers’ menus, browse for wedding bands, photographers, and wedding attire designers. Basically your typical wedding trade show — only this time completely gay-friendly.

With both the Bride and the Groom working for renowned beauty & fashion brands in Paris, aesthetics were a high priority for this couple. Eleanor desired a refined and muted palette with decadent textures and accents, so we gave a modern Marie Antoinette feel to the reception décor and dessert buffet using armfuls of pastel roses and faceted crystals along with dainty cake stands at alternating heights with custom-crafted signs indicating the name of each delicacy.
In Paris, even the most simple of ceremonies can be extraordinarily romantic! Red roses, heartfelt words, a champagne toast and the Eiffel Tower – that’s celebrating love in the sweetest way!
A fashionista marries her international beau in an intimate yet supremely chic celebration in the South of France.
She chooses her dream dress, accents it with the perfect belt and shoes, allows her lovely Bridesmaids to choose unique gowns in decadent pastel shades, and prepares to be the center of attention for the next 3 days.

Congratulations to Maria and Jack whose glamourous wedding at the Hotel de Crillon has now been featured on Style Me Pretty! A soft color pallet and candle center pieces gave this wedding a elegantly tranquil ambiance, which served as the perfectly subtle background to showcase this couple’s lively personalities. The entire wedding party, beyond being a very handsome crowd, were fun filled and bursting with vitality. It’s fun groups like this that make me love what I do!

Working in a country that is home to so many gorgeous historic chateaus, finding a traditionally beautiful venue is not much of a challenge. What becomes interesting and perhaps a bit complex, however, is finding a way to incorporate modern decor and luxuries with these venues in a fashion that remains elegant. If done wrong, mixing modern and traditional style can result in the creation of something that is nothing short of chaotic for the senses. When mixed thoughtfully, modern and traditional decor can be used to highlight each other’s beauty instead of competing to attract the eye.
As this is a challenge I have been facing a lot with recent weddings, I was particularly intrigued by this year’s modern art exposition at Versailles. In past years Versailles has featured the art of Jeff Koons, Takashi Murkami, and Xavier Veilhan and Bernar Venet. This years featured artist is Joana Vasconcelos who’s modern works now stand amongst the beauty of the Versailles gardens and within Versailles’ walls. Below are some photos of some of her work:
